Portland education nonprofit Self Enhancement Inc. held its signature event, Soul of the City, Feb 22. The annual event included a cocktail reception, dinner, entertainment, a fundraising auction, awards and an after party.

The Skanner News publisher, Bernie Foster was honored with the 2014 Soul of the City award for 2014.

Walter C. Bowen CEO of BPM Senior Living was honored with the Life Has Options award.

Self Enhancement Inc. serves more than 7,500 students and their families in North, Northeast and inner East Portland.  More than 98 percent of students in the core program graduate from high school in four years, with 85 percent continuing to college or further education. That’s despite the fact that  92 percent of these students start out at high risk of dropping out.
