WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama on Thursday signed into law a package of tax breaks and spending designed to give the U.S. a jobs boost by encouraging the private sector to start hiring again

Mary Volm Kicks Off to Be Commissioner

Celebrating the start of her campaign

Mary Volm celebrated the kickoff for her campaign for city commissioner last week at the Radio Room on Alberta Street. Volm is running against Commissioner Dan Saltzman. Volm was the spokesman for a variety of city government bureaus.

That was the day that then candidate Barack Obama, on the eve of his historic election to the presidency, promised African-American leaders and representatives across the nation that if elected, he would never forget that Black people are specifically and disparately hurting from social ills.
