The Royal Rosarian Foundation presented the awards for Newsmaker of the Year for 2015. The award ceremony was held at Lloyd Center Ballroom at the DoubleTree Hilton on March 16.

The Newsmaker of the Year awards go to local heros and heroines who have performed acts of bravery or service to the community without regard to personal safety or public recognition. The recipients are nominated by local media representatives who choose these newsworthy people.

The Skanner News presented newsmaker Maxine Fitzpatrick for her work at the Portland Community Reinvestment Initiative. She has worked to preserve, expand and manage affordable housing in the city of Portland as well as providing access and advocacy for residents.
