The Skanner 24th Martin Luther King Breakfast kicks off this morning at 8:30 am. The Skanner staff and a team from the North Portland Multimedia Training Center have been onsite at the Oregon Convention center since 6:30 a.m. to make sure everything is ready.  At this early hour people are arriving and meeting up with friends and colleagues in the reception area ...

 Bernie Foster, Publisher of The Skanner, reminds you to get your tickets for The Skanner News 24th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast. The event will be held Jan. 18, 2010 from 8:30 am to 10:30 am at the Oregon Convention Center, 777 NE Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. Portland. The Keynote speaker will be Robin Morris Collin, environmental justice expert, author and law professor at Willamette University.

Addressing a crowd of more than 900 people from all walks of life, Oregon's new attorney general asked the crowd a favor: stand behind him in re-creating the Civil Rights Enforcement Unit.
Immediately, the crowd that had been sitting still, hanging on every word of John Kroger, now picked up the petitions distributed on every table to sign and pass around.
