Singer, author, playwright and actor Lady Kitty Griffin will be bringing a double dose of entertainment to Portland in January. Griffin's musical play about the struggles and solutions of strong Black women, "Emerge: 7 Women, 7 Stools" will kick off a national tour on Jan. 28 and 29 at Portland's Winningstad Theatre.

The Skanner 24th Martin Luther King Breakfast kicks off this morning at 8:30 am. The Skanner staff and a team from the North Portland Multimedia Training Center have been onsite at the Oregon Convention center since 6:30 a.m. to make sure everything is ready. The event will be held Jan. 18, 2010 from 8:30 am to 10:30 am at the Oregon Convention Center, 777 NE Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. Portland. The Keynote speaker will be Robin Morris Collin, environmental justice expert, author and law professor at Willamette University.
