(CNN) -- Earlier this year, "Saved by the Bell" actress Lark Voorhies took fans by surprise with an appearance on Yahoo!'s "The Yo Show" in May.

At the time, "The Yo Show" focused on finding out what 38-year-old Voorhies, who starred as Lisa Turtle on cult classic "SBTB" from 1989 to 1993, had been up to.

While Voorhies explained that she's been "quite wonderful [and] very busy" with her own company, her mother is giving another update in People magazine's new issue, saying that her daughter has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

People magazine reports that the Yahoo! interview raised speculation that Voorhies was using drugs, claims both the actress and her mother, Tricia, have denied.

"There are things that have traumatized her," Tricia, who shares a home with Voorhies, told People. "I care deeply about my daughter and I want her to resume her life."

Voorhies also spoke with People in a series of interviews, during which the publication says Voorhies would stop mid-sentence and stare vacantly, or mumble to herself or others who weren't there.

When asked about her behavior, the actress explained that she has "a strong spiritual sense ... You caught me in moments of pray [sic]."

Calling her mother "over-loving," Voorhies told the publication that she's not sick and is steadily working with her production company, developing new music and writing.
