Portland State University Professor Jan Haaken will holding a benefit screening of her new documentary "Guilty Except for Insanity" on Sunday, April 11 at the Grand Theater in Salem.
The film follows patients and staff at the Oregon State Hospital, telling a story of a mental health system that begins with the county jail and ends with the most famous hospital in the state. Patients are only able to enter the hospital after being deemed guilty but insane, likely to serve out a longer time at the hospital than behind prison walls.
The benefit will help raise funds to complete the film and provide for community feedback before the film is submitted to festivals.
Screenings will be at 1:30 and 7 p.m. on April 11. The Grand Theater is located at 191 High St. in Salem. Tickets available at Salem Travel, 181 High St. NE; or at www.absolutelytix.com  or at the door 15 minutes before screenings.
