HONG KONG (AP) -- Michael Jackson fans in Hong Kong paid tribute to the late American pop legend over the weekend by staging flash mob performances of his dance moves across the city.
Several fans started dancing to the music of \"Beat It" in the crowded Mong Kok shopping district Sunday and were quickly joined by dozens of others. They imitated Jackson's signature, arm-swinging, finger-snapping movement and yelled \"beat it" when the song reached its refrain.
Less than two minutes later, the crowd dispersed, walking away as if nothing had happened. A video of the performance has been posted on YouTube.
Fans staged two other flash mobs Sunday in other parts of Hong Kong in which they imitated the moonwalk, the Apple Daily newspaper reported Monday.
Jackson fans in Hong Kong have been avidly commemorating his death, performing and speaking at shopping malls. About 100 stayed up late into the night earlier this month to watch his official memorial on a big screen at a suburban mall.
“Flash mobsâ€" are gatherings of strangers who perform the same action at an agreed time and place. The gatherings are normally organized through viral text and Internet messages.
