Noted children's author Bobby L. Jackson has returned with his 13th publication, a new twist on an old tale entitled "Rainy Brown and the Seven Midgets" (Multicultural paperback, $11.95).
Rainy Brown, a striking Ashanti princess, is abused and sentenced to death by her ruthless, step-mama queen. She is ultimately adopted by a group of talented musicians whose legendary instruments create magic moments during trying times.
But good intentions disappear when Queen Step-mama discovers her prey's hideout and proceeds to do away with the African beauty. However, later found unconscious upon a bed of purple and white velvety African violets, Rainy is rescued by an Ashanti warrior prince who happens by while hunting for antelope.
"Rainy Brown" written for grade levels two to five, is an entertaining retelling of a time-honored fairy tale.
