Rev. Harold Dean Bishop has died. He was born Aug. 25, 1940 to John Bishop Jr. and Rosetta Bishop in Tillar, Ark. He was the second of 10 children.
Harold grew up in Portland, Ore. and attended George Grade School. Upon graduation from Roosevelt High School, he joined the Army. When he returned home, he met and married Bernice Jackson in 1967.
Rev. Bishop accepted Christ at an early age. He received his bachelor's degree from Concordia University, his masters from Multnomah School of the Bible, and a degree in counseling from Portland Community College. The Rev. Bishop was ordained as a minister in 1980. His ministry work included pastoring his own church, serving as assistant pastor at several area churches; as well as head chaplain at Truck Stop Ministry.
He was employed by Boeing of Portland from which he retired as a technical writer in 2000 after 30 years of service. He worked as a counselor for CODA from 2002 until 2005. He also worked in the Metro Smart Program for nine years tutoring local school children.
Rev. Bishop was always ready to lend a helping hand to family members and friends. He enjoyed all sports and working on his computer.
As we celebrate his life, he leaves to cherish his memories his beloved wife: Bernice Bishop; one son: John Stephen Bishop (Diane); three daughters: Tamiko Bishop-Singer, Leatha Bishop Steele (Marquise) and Stephanie Ann Bishop; four brothers: Freddie (Patricia) Bishop, Ronald Keith Bishop, Randy Bishop and Bradley Williams. four sisters: Dorothy B. Hadley (Hurtis, Sr.), Lorraine B. Bell (Willie), Mae Helen Franklin and Beverly B. Bunn (Eddie); seven granddaughters, six grandsons, five great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
