I just don't get it,I have been working since I was 14 now 43,worked for the same company for 14 years they had to close because it went overseas.How can anyone compared unemployment to welfare?I don't sit on my butt ,have kids,selection 38 and food stamps.I don't want a hand out I bust my butt off everyday looking I hate not working,This county is in a very sad state.You do the right thing and you get kick in the butt when you are down and out.But hey maybe the people on welfare is on to something.Maybe I will go an apply why not..Or maybe become a drug dealer or work in the goverment same thing.

I was barly hanging on... my mortgage was due today but no unemployment money came. So next it will be my house that is taken. I am sure I am not the only one that has been relying on this way of life that is sickning, but now hundreds of thousands will default on their mortgages.

I have been unemployed since 07/2008 i have tried to find a job filled out applications on line and in person and did the call backs to companies and sent out resumes and went on interviews and still no job. I'm 55 years old and its hard for us to find a job i'm two months behind on my bills and i don't have any money since may 9th. this isn't a resession its a depression. were is our bailouts the banks and aig and fanny may freddy mac and etc were bailed out we need help now

These banks knew they were writing bad loans. They also knew that the government could not let them fail. Like clockwork the banks were bailed out at a huge cost to the taxpayer. I remember working for a Christian conservative couple -you did nothing but answer phones, and schedule appointments. They drove from a huge house (they just bought even though all their children are gone) to the same job in separate SUVs. Then they paid their employees nothing but minumum wage or piece work. And complained about how lazy everyone else is and if others wanted better jobs they get them (they got the $$$ from their rich parents) It's not that some americans are hard working. It's just they have easier jobs (like Senators)

I have worked 32 years for one company, I have seen manufacturing go overseas, we were compleatly bought out by the swiss, at 54 years old my job was taken over by a swiss person not even an american citizen. An at 55 would have had my hospitialization paid at 80 percent now I get nothing. We have to vote out these people in the government. Now I do not know what I will do I can't even get a job at walmart.

All The while families are at high anxiety levels. Bankers and creditors charging overdrafts and late fees now. I would love to see them add to the Bill when they ever get to it, that if extentions are provided, then any overdraft charges or late charges due to their failure to respond in a timely manner be waived for those who depended on those benefits. The US legislatures have caused this element by their negligence to their constituants thus furhering hardships not deserving. I pray for each and every law maker in this country to step aside of their political positions and do what is moarally right and not waste one precious second in helping their own countrymen. I lost my job of 32 years last year at the age of 58 & 1/2. I applied to many jobs, with no interviews! Age is a negative in looking for a job. I've been doing volunteer work to help with stress, and self-image. I'm now living on my cashed out pension, and not even 60! The senate has a cold heart to the very people who voted them into office. I may not have long term unemployment pay, but ny memory to those who turned back to me is very long!!

As a recent ender of unemployment benefits I would like to tell a tale of looking for a job for three years but....I have a masters degree, I'm white, jewish, and 61 years old. I really hate the republicans who think they are better than everyone. I have always loved this country but I deplore the way it is heading. No one cares about anyone. No one bothers to talk. Make a mistake and go to jail for years... when a did we become as puritan as our forefathers.. haven't we learned that we need each other. doing it alone is not good. I really hate being on food stamps but living off of $600 a month is easy. Oh, I also don't have heath insurance for the first time in my life.. not by choice. Chaya

Its an election year, I'm tired of the right and the polarazation of the country, I vow to vote democrat from now on if only to spite the right.

My son has worked and gone to college since he was 15, he skipped high school and went straight into college at 15. He got married at 17 and they had 2 children, they have now been married 20 years. He does not take drugs and has been consistently employed since he was 15, he is now 37,will turn 38 this Dec. He has been unemployed for a little over a year ( mainly because so many jobs were sent over seas not by his own faults) he applies for jobs all over the country and world, not just where it is convenient for him. He has not even had an interview out of the hundreds of job he has applied for. Now since he lost his unemployment, he has filed for bankruptcy, he and his wife are losing their house, the money his wife makes can possibly feed them but that is about it. I am disabled and not a welfare case, but yes I am on social security I worked hard until my doctors told me I had to quit or die. So the politicians that think they are so much better than the rest of us remember you are where your at because you were voted there not because you are hard working, you are not. you have a very easy job. Oh by the way I am also a veteran not that that is of any value to people like you anyways. Eventually people will start suicides and the crime will go up just so people can feed their children.

I agree that the Republican party is cruel and heartless, and they forget that those of us who are at their mercy are also registered voters. We put them there and we can take them out. They are out of touch with reality, making their six figure salaries, living in million dollar homes, getting health care that we will never see, and getting their lavish incomes for life while the rest of us are barely able to survive until we can get a job. We are not some lowlife subclass of parasites (like Congress and the Senate), we want to be productive again. Unemployment is not enough to pay trhe bills as it it, and without it we will loose our homes, and everything else.

My benefits have run out as of 5/10 and I think about those single parents that don't have any or just barely income coming in, what are they going to do for and with their children? Times are very trying and if it were closer to home for some of those holding back the funding it would be a different story. The mess that former President Bush left is still showing up today and still causing great pain for the every day American citizen. We can assist everyone else in the world but our own. Where did it say that generousity begins at home! Where does Congressmen/women and Senators live? Elections are coming or did they forget that? J

Now I have heard for the second time, the GOP leadership has directed the Republican Senators to vote down the continuation of unemployment benefits and for those at risk in November - Not to worry because many unemployed will be homeless and most will be concerned about survival and won't make voting a priority. That is what the GOP is actually saying !!!

I agree with the decision to stop the extensions. I know plenty of people who argue that they would rather get the unemployment than get a job. Also, I agree with drug testing people who receive benefits. I also know several people who get the checks and use it for drugs instead of living expenses.

The idea that the Republican party (which i am a party of, or WAS) would stand by and allow the middle class working families to lose their homes, and businesses, when we (with the help of the unemployment compensation) were finally able to renegotiate our mortgages and start to get back on track and not have to lose EVERYTHING we worked hard all these years to gain, is absolutely, without a doubt the most insensitive, selfish act I have yet seen by the Republican Party. Please do not use the deficit as your excuse to play games with control over the Democratic Party, we the people are caught in the middle and if you think for one moment I won't remember this at ELECTION time you are sadly mistaken. I backed Bush in his first terms of office and second terms, I have always been a staunch supporter of the Republican Party, BUT I also believed they were there for the people not to manifest their own agenda without consideration of the masses. i believe the Republican Party is doing an injustice to its constituents and it will backfire. Allowing this unemployment compensation extension at least until November is not going to make or break our economy as much as the waste of tax payers money going on with the continuous meetings, filibusters and rejections of this bill is costing the American people, get up, get on with it and do the right thing. Do not hide behind what u think we want to hear so that u are looked at as blameless, give us more credit than that! Help us now because worrying about the deficit for our grandchildren won't matter much if.. 1. we don't have shelter, food or good water ways for them to work upon in their lives. If the Republican Party would put aside their bruises (which I shared in) from the election and truly look to what is needed they would see November is not that far away and at very least the American people would see have a little more time.

If obama would not have use up so much money producing nothing in jobs. May be there would be some money left for the Americans that earn it in the first place. Hey if you read this and support not extending benefits you're an a--hole I can't find a job there are none and not only that I will likely have to go on the run because I will face jail for not paying child support. That or feeding myself depends on how you look at it. Not extending benefits is ridiculus I would love to see the ones whom don't support it live like I have to they would probably die. We can bail out big banks and automakers, we can support illegals, worry about offending them, we can send millions to other countries but not support our own people. I think what needs to be done now is to go to Washington and have our voices heard. We Americans who now can't pay our bills and may be living out in the streets very soon have to band together. That is what that money was supposed to be for. Exactly what it was supposed to be for. Democrats essentially insist that they have stolen the stimulus money, and it can only be spent for their re-election at election time, and that we will just need to find new money to extend unemployment. Republicans simply insist that it be paid for with the money ALREADY ALLOCATED TO DO SO and that the stimulus money is not the 2010 democratic campaign fund. Harry Ried objects any time anyone attempts to discuss the actual issue, so right-minded people had no choice but to vote no. Republicans actually want to extend benefits. For the last ten years I have raised two kids through there teenaged years alone. My employer let me go after nearly 18 years of loyalty and hard work last July. Now my benefits have dryed up. My savings are depleating and can't find a job. I am 23 years into my 30 year mortgage. Years ago I was living the american dream. Now the Republicans are going to finish me off. I will not live under a bridge pan handling. I will find a way for the repubicans to remember me.

The Senators need to remember that unemployment insurance extension payment is not welfare. This payment is earned by people who have worked hard and paid taxes. The vast majority of people receiving payments are actively seeking work that pays a fair wage. It is easy for rich people like politicians to say that we should take minimum wage jobs, but the reality is that we have to make a fair wage to survive and take care of our families. Most of us poor and working class people were not born with a trust fund or other family wealth like many of the politicians who are voting against reauthorizing unemployment insurance extension payments. Frankly, their behavior is shameful, disrespectful, arrogant, and callous. Many of them will pay the price for their lack of support in November 2010 by losing their precious Senate seat!

Both Senate Democrats and Republicans are responsible for the unemployment insurance (UI) extension benefits bill not passing. Both parties have to learn to work together collaboratively. They should be a shamed of themselves for using the poor and working class as pawns in their political game. Also, I am very frustrated with rich and powerful politicians holding the poor and working class people hostage to their unjust and corrupt decision making. However, if the Senators are as smart as they think they are, they would change their minds and pass the UI extension bill because the public will hold them accountable in November when some Senators come up for re-election.
